Butcher of Bosnia Captured

This is an article about the recent capture of one of the leaders in the genocide in bosnia that killed about 250,000 (mostly Muslims and Croats) and displaced 1.8 million in the 1990s.

Genocide of Tibetans?

Just saw an interesting article in the paper where the Dalai Lama claims a "cultural genocide" is taking place. Click here if you're interested.

Iran

This is not directly related to genocide, but I thought this case should get more public attention.

http://considerthisandthat.blogspot.com/2008/03/save-mehdi-kazemi.html

In Iran homosexuals are executed for their practices, this is a story about a young man who is an Iranian-Gay and has been denied asylum by the UK and will be deported in just a few days. Why do you think the world keeps turning a blind eye to these blatant human rights violations? Why are minorities still singled out like this?

George Washington's 276th Birthday, February 22, 2008!

I know this has nothing to do with genocide, but it's history related... and I just had to share. :)

Tomorrow, February 22, is WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY! :) He would be 276 years old if he was still alive today.

Happy Birthday, George! :D

US compares 9/11 trials to Nuremberg

Hey... so I found this article about how some people want to use the death penalty on people associated with 9/11 and part of their argument is that the death penalty is legal and should be used like it was used in the Nuremberg trial.

Of course problems with this comparison is that the numbers of people murdered by the nazis was far greater than the current death toll due to 9/11 and so some people doubt whether that comparison is even valid... anyways... here's the article:

President Bush's State of the Union Address

Hey all. Don't know if you're still reading this, but... I have some news. (well, you probably all heard it but... it's cool news.)

During Bush's State of the Union Address on Tuesday, he officially used the term "genocide" for the situation in Sudan. As we know from our experiences last semester, this means that the US has officially taken the initiative. We are responsible for stopping it. (or intervening in some way)

"America opposes genocide in Sudan. (Applause.) We support freedom in countries from Cuba and Zimbabwe to Belarus and Burma. (Applause.)" - President Bush's State of the Union Address, 2008.

Kenya

I don't know if anyone is still reading this, but I just read this short article about a new genocide that is beginning in Kenya. This "ethnic cleansing" began because of the recent elections in Kenya. Here is the link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/kenya/story/0,,2249481,00.html
